🚀 Milestone Firsts in Orbit

• Ed Dwight Jr. (1961): Selected as the first Black astronaut trainee under President John F. Kennedy's recommendation, though racial politics ultimately prevented him from flying with NASA at the time. In May 2024, at age 90, he finally flew to space on a Blue Origin flight, becoming the oldest person in history to do so. 
• Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez (1980): A Cuban cosmonaut who became the first person of African descent in space. He flew to the Soviet space station Salyut 6 as part of the Interkosmos program. 
• Guion "Guy" Bluford (1983): Launched aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger to become the first African American in space. He went on to fly four shuttle missions.
